Our Style

For the beginning student at Warriors Fusion, the core of our martial training is traditional Shaolin Kung Fu. Shaolin Kung Fu is one of the oldest and most respected martial arts in the world. It is also one of the most diverse and comprehensive styles in existence today.

China is home to the oldest continuous civilization (same, people, language, and place) in the world. In a very long history of feuding empires and invading warlords, the martial arts have been a central part of Chinese culture for over 3000 years. (In contrast, Japanese and Korean martial arts can only be dated back a few hundred years—attempts to trace them farther back inevitably lead to China).

Over the course of this long history, the Chinese martial arts have developed incredible sophistication. Initially practiced by warriors in the military to maintain battle-readiness and proficiency, traditional martial arts training encompassed fitness, technique, strategy, and mental preparation for combat. It was a true discipline of mind, body, and spirit.

Around 1000 years ago, monks began to adopt martial arts training as a spiritual discipline. In the monasteries the spiritual and mental aspects of the training were refined to a very high degree. These refinements were adopted in turn for military use and spread throughout China. The most famous of these monasteries was Shaolin Temple. Acting as a kind of university for martial arts, Shaolin Temple has attracted top teachers from styles all over China (and more recently the world) to teach and study there.

Shaolin basic training has been developed by countless generations of warriors, monks, and masters to prepare beginning students to study any fighting style they chose as their training progresses. The comprehensive and rigorous training prepares the beginning student's body for the widest possible range of action. More importantly, the complexity, subtlety, and difficulty of the training readies the student mentally and spiritually to pursue the highest levels of attainment in the martial arts.
